Multi-kW single fiber laser based on an extra large mode area fiber design
Abstract
The excellent refractive index and doping level homogeneity in combination with the low background attenuation losses of Yb-dope bulk silica enable multi-kW fiber laser systems based on a single multimode laser fiber.
We have developed diverse extra large mode area (XLMA) fiber concepts produced by jacketing or filament stacking of Yb-doped bulk silica. The achieved laser efficiency and photodarkening performance results of such fibers with different core compositions will be presented.
Moreover, we will report on the excellent laser performance of a multi-kW fiber laser based on a single XLMA-fiber.
